Cleveland is exploring new technology to tackle potholes before they form, partnering with infrastructure intelligence company CYVL to test an AI-powered road inspection system. The technology, now in use by Cleveland Metroparks, uses vehicle-mounted sensors with 360-degree cameras and LiDAR to scan streets, quickly translating the data into maps that score road conditions and flag small cracks early.
By identifying issues sooner, city agencies can make lower-cost repairs and reduce long-term damage — helping Cleveland stretch maintenance budgets while improving the driving experience for residents.
