CYVL Society — Privacy Policy
This policy explains what CYVL Society (“the app,” “we,” “us”) collects and how we use it. The app is operated by Cyvl (https://www.cyvl.com). It is intended for enrolled college students who sign in with a valid school (.edu) account and is not directed to children under 13.
1. Information we collect
- Account info — your school email address, display name/handle, school, major, and graduation year, obtained when you sign in with Google or Microsoft.
- Captures you submit — the video, LiDAR depth scans, precise location (GPS/GNSS), and device motion (accelerometer/gyroscope) recorded when you scan infrastructure, plus timestamps.
- Location — precise device location, used to show the map and to tag your captures. You can turn this off in iOS Settings (the app’s capture features will not work without it).
- Usage and device data — your submissions, points, leaderboard standing, and basic app diagnostics and crash logs used to keep the app reliable.
2. How we use your information
- To run the app: verify eligibility, award points after human review, and show leaderboards (your name and school are visible to other members).
- To build and improve Cyvl’s infrastructure and 3D-reconstruction datasets and related services.
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information and do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising.
3. How captures are used and shared
Captures you submit are processed into Cyvl’s infrastructure datasets and may be shared with Cyvl’s customers (such as municipalities) and partners in processed or aggregated form. Contributed capture data is de-identified from your account where feasible.
4. Service providers
We share data with vendors who help us operate the app, including authentication (Google, Microsoft), cloud hosting and storage (Supabase), and maps (Mapbox), plus analytics and crash-reporting providers where enabled. They may process data only to provide services to us.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep account data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account, which removes your profile. Capture data you already contributed remains in the dataset in de-identified / anonymized form, as described in the End User License Agreement. To request help, contact us at the address below.
6. Your choices and rights
You can access, correct, or delete your profile in the app or by contacting us, and you can control camera, location, and motion permissions in iOS Settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, under GDPR or the CCPA); contact us to exercise them.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
8. Children
The app is intended for enrolled college students and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes
We may update this policy and will revise the date above. Material changes will be noted in the app.
